Sexual Purity, A Man's Best Friend

One of the most powerful allies a man's character can have is his purity. Today we are specifically talking about sexual purity. Sex is a beautiful wonderful gift from God, and when we use it as he designed, we are sexually pure. On the flip side, when we have sex outside of his design, we become sexually impure.

In our media and culture, sexual purity is usually never encouraged and almost never celebrated. Often times, when a man speaks of being sexually pure, he is met with rolled eyes and an attitude of being outdated and nonrealistic. Instead of encouraging sexual purity, our pop media and culture usually does the opposite. We are consistently encouraged by movies, music, and magazines to seek and gratify our sexual desires. Like a child in a candy store, we are seemingly encouraged to try whatever we like and desire. However just like children, we often do not see where our actions take us and the effects our impurity has on the rest of our lives.

So what exactly is sexual purity? Sexual purity is having sex when and only when you are married, and only with your spouse. One man and one woman joined in marriage. Sexual purity does not involve conventional safe sex, but it does involve only the safest, best, and most intimate sex, which is sex with your spouse. Notice the word spouse, not your girlfriend or even your fiancé, but your spouse. Every other kind of sex falls into the category of impurity. I know that this statement may not be popular, it may be the last thing that you want to hear, but if you're seeking the best and God's blessing on your life, there is no other way for a man go.

So what does sexual purity have to do with being a better man? Well, when a man is sexually pure, he invites the blessing of the Lord into his life. Proverbs 10:22 states, "The blessing of the Lord makes one rich, And He adds no sorrow with it." When someone is sexually pure, his mind and heart are clear. He has a power, an inner strength that cannot be mimicked or mocked. This blessing will give you favor with God and with people. In Matthew 5:8, Jesus says "Blessed are the pure in heart." How true this is! When someone is pure, free from the contaminants of lust and perversion, people will feel at ease with him. Women, children, both young and old will feel comfortable and at ease around a man who is pure. There is a strength, a presence, a Godliness, an inner confidence that cannot be mocked when we are pure in heart. When your heart is pure, you know that God is with you, and nothing can stand in your way. When you know that God is with you, nothing can hold you back from your destiny.

How do we become sexually pure, especially if we have been living an impure lifestyle? Well this usually involves a change in heart and focus. We must change our attitudes and actually desire purity. A change in heart will lead you into letting go of the false perverted popular attitudes of manhood, and also into taking on a desire to seek purity, not only in yourself, but in others as well. Our focus also must change. You cannot view women as sexual objects and be sexually pure. These two do not mix. Yes we have attraction, even desire if you like. There is nothing wrong with this, this is what attracts us to each other. It is God given. Like many things however, if we allow our desire to go haywire, we can misuse the gift from God which is sex. When the natural attraction and desire men and women have for each other goes haywire, meaning the relationship becomes sexual outside of marriage, the result is lust. Nothing good ever comes out of lust. The only thing you get with lust is more lust. It is never truly satisfied. Lust destroys your purity, it can destroy relationships, and it takes you out of the blessing of the Lord.

If you have been living a sexually impure lifestyle, I encourage you to rise up, and become a better man. You are living way beneath your potential, and taking others down the same road. Please seek the blessing of the Lord, and become the man you were destined to be. A strong, pure, free, and blessed man who is also a blessing to others.

Being sexually pure will truly free your mind and invite so many good things into your life. When we have eye's and minds of purity, we can really reach our true potential and become better men.
