Do you feel like you are stuck in the mud? Feel like no matter what you do, you can't move forward and away from the feelings you have for your ex? This is so common. It always feels like you just aren't ever going to recover.
If you are a woman, it's a big step to move forward and get involved again. Not to mention the thought of getting intimate with another person. Isn't that where our minds go, though? Instead of just moving forward and not EXPECTING anything, we start to analyze. We think about what the next relationship "may" be like, what will happen on a date, then about how we'll handle the intimacy, etc. We haven't even met anyone yet! Take things easy and be easy on yourself. Just enjoy being alone for a while. Enjoy your quiet time.
Perhaps you do know the relationship wasn't working out. You knew there were things that won't change about your ex. They might have been so important to you that you can't overlook them. For some reason, though, you continue to have conflicting feelings and you miss him or her. What ends up happening next? You reminisce and think of all the good times you had with your ex and all the fun you had. Notice how none of the bad times creep into your memory at this point, typically? That's because you are feeding your mind with the thought of all the good things that happened. That's great but really, that wasn't reality, was it? When we dive deeper, we tend to be able to see through our thoughts and feelings. What's left is the reality of what the relationship really was- whether it was truly "good" or "bad". You will be looking at it from a less emotional place.
If you decide to take this time for yourself, make plans. If you feel like you need to keep busy, get into a sport or become part of a club or class, etc. You can even schedule time to go for walks out in nature. There's a lot to be learned from the quiet, still, yet somehow extremely solid natural world. You'll find some inner peace when you take time to enjoy the silence of nature for a while!
If, after taking time for yourself, you still feel drawn to speak with you ex, do it! You may see things from a different point of view. You may also just be able to have closure. Whatever you do, just be easy on yourself. Stop thinking of what your past was like and what your future needs to be. Just enjoy the time you have... today.
