How many times have you heard your friend whine about that stupid jerk that didn't know how to pay compliments? Or how about that blind date that nearly led to a heart-attack (because of those hairy arms that made you... well)! First time dates rarely materialize in anything concrete on the relationship front, but still, the charm that a first date holds is immense for any pristine maiden. So, just like those bad boys that we all lust after, despite knowing that he would never be tamed, the first date is a dream that is cherished by generally all womenfolk. And since we can't fight those cravings, we must look for some options that would at least give us some backup when we are pushed to the wall and are in imminent danger. The first thing that ever girl must understand is that safety comes first. Although those guys may look innocent but try and keep your brains and wits about. Date rape is a common crime. Make sure that you always meet in public places, especially, on your first date.

Follow these rules and keep safe:

1. Avoid blind dates; in case you are meeting through some agency make sure that you verify every detail about his background. Also, keeping your friends and family in the loop about the date is not a bad idea.

2. Keep your mobile fully charged and in case of any untoward activity simply walk off. Speed dials as they are called are for speed communication keep emergency numbers on speed dials.

3. Do not wear steamy clothes; that would come later...

4. Do not talk about sex or give any hint that may make the guy presume that you are craving for any action. That may give him wrong fodder and you may end up with too much fodder that you would have wanted to chew.

5. Keep a pepper spray or even chili powder with you. Chili and pepper sprays are historical weapons that have seldom failed women!

6. Keep your nails long. Scratch his face if need arises. That's no time to play helpless-help-me-maiden!

7. If he is just a Bugs Bunny then even sweet talk can help you but if that doesn't work then remember the old adage; attack is the best defense. Hit him in the loins and run... run as fast as you can and shout to attract people.

8. Even perfumes when used in excessive qualities can blind him for a few seconds... Please use liberally! Keep a cheap bottle handy when in doubt!

9. It may sound harsh but when in doubt act coy i.e. don't go on a date! And live in the arms of that fictitious Adonis that you have conjured as your fantasy mate. That too will keep you safe!

10. If all fails then read Mills and Boons. The iconic male characters can put you off any man in the world!
