Our mother's age old advice to have more fruits and vegetables has now got some scientific backings as in a recent study it has been revealed that having orange and yellow colored vegetables and fruits helps in boosting the quality and quantity of sperm by as much as 8 percent.
There is growing evidence and concern especially in the western old that the sperm counts on average have declined by more than half starting from the age of evolution. There are a number of factors that have caused this decline like physiological changes which can be highly due to the mobile phones men keep in their pockets, toxins prevalent in the environment and even estrogen which is present in water and milk products can be the cause of drop in sperm count and quality.

The property of carrots which helps them in improving the quality of sperms can be attributed to the presence of carotenoids in them. Carotenoids are chemicals which are helpful in providing the foods their familiar color.
The human body system is capable of converting the carotenoids into beneficial anti-oxidants like vitamin A, which help in regulating the quality of sperms and help in neutralization of free radicals. Other sources from which Vitamin A can be derived are oatmeal, broccoli etc.
In a study it was also found that men who consumed red vegetables and fruits specifically tomatoes had better shaped sperms due to the presence lycopene in their body which is also an anti cancer chemical. In the study it was revealed that men who consumed tomatoes regularly had ten percent extra sperm count which could prove to be highly beneficial for couples who are having difficulty trying to conceive.
A study which was presented at the American Society for Reproductive Medicine's 2013 Annual Meeting at Boston, revealed that men who consumed a high saturated fat diet most commonly bacon could have a significant impact on the quantity and quality of sperm. It is also interesting to note that although processed meat decreased quality of sperm, eating fish regularly raised the quality of sperms.
Fish, vegetables and fresh fruits all contribute to a healthier sperm quality as well as maintaining a healthy lifestyle which includes exercising regularly, eating on time, appropriate sleep and depression free life.
