How to Have a Good First Date

Now that you've managed to get the woman you've been after to go on a date with you, how do you make sure that your date goes well? Obviously, some factors are out of your control, but there are ways to make sure that you contribute to your first date being a good time for both of you.

First, choose a location that will make you feel comfortable. For example, if you're nervous and don't enjoy making small talk, dinner may not be a good option. Dinners leave a lot of free time that needs to be filled with talking, and if that's not your strong suit, you might think of something different, like going to a sporting event which allows for some conversation, or even inviting another couple to come with you. Even bowling will give you a chance to talk while also having something to distract you both if the conversation lags.

If you are going to choose to take your date out to dinner, be sure to steer clear of controversial topics like religion and politics. There is nothing that can cause a date to go sour like fighting over opposing viewpoints. Also avoid awkward topics like ex-girlfriends. Don't brag about yourself, either. While you may think it makes you a hero in her eyes, in reality there is nothing more boring than listening to someone goes on and on about how good they are at work, athletics, or anything else. Try to talk about topics that allow you both to contribute to the conversation, as odds are she will appreciate a chance to share, as well, and you will get a chance to show that you can be a good listener.

As the date is getting ready to end, there is always the awkward moment where both of you are wondering if a goodnight kiss is appropriate. Kissing on the first date isn't always appreciated. The quick way to find out if she would like to kiss you is to offer her a goodnight hug. During the hug, if she leans in as if she is expecting a kiss, kiss her. If she doesn't, don't. There is no faster way to ruin a good date than by giving an unwanted kiss. If you do kiss her, make it simple and quick. If she seems to want to kiss longer, than do, but always try to mirror her kissing. Don't try to force the issue of a next date. Call her the next day and thank her for the date, then broach the topic then.

Every guy can do well in a first date with a woman. The question is are you able to keep the conversation going on.
